Burglary at MaxMart, ACCI decries security lapses

ITANAGAR, Aug 8: Goods worth Rs 5 lacs were stolen from Max Mart at Naharlagun on Saturday. Apart from DVDs and wrist watches, the burglars picked up clothes and cosmetics worth five lacs. According to a source, the burglars took out the exhaust fan and made their entry.

Officer in Charge Naharlagun Police station T Susen when contacted informed that police has launched an investigation team with Officer N Geyi leading it. Finger prints were also collected from the area.

The OC further said that they were informed about the burglary after 10.30 AM on Sunday.

Meanwhile, Arunachal Chamber of Commerce and Industries (ACCI) and Naharlagun Bazar Welfare Committee took strong exception to the Saturday night burglary in MaxMart at Naharlagun and said that the incident has exposed the lapses of the security apparatus.

Thought the mall is located in the heart of the city along the National Highway 52 A, the planned burglary needs strong condemnation as it exposes the loophole in the security net as security personnel patrol the streets throughout the night, it said.

We are dismayed at the incident and demand arrest of the burglars and exemplary punishment to them and intensification of the patrolling, the a joint a press statement.

It may be mentioned here that Home Minister Tako Dabi had assured security to the traders, when Arunachal Chamber of Commerce and Industries (ACCI) president Techi Lala and general secretary Tarh Nachung had called on the former at his invitation recently to hold threadbare discussion on the welfare of the traders, particularly their security.

Vth NE Wushu C’ship begins at Kimin

ITANAGAR, Aug 8: The Vth North East Wushu Championship began with Doimukh MLA and Parliamentary Secretary (Industries) Nabam Rebia inaugurating the three days event at Subansiri Stadium, Kimin amidst huge gathering today as chief guest. Kimin ZPM Bamang Yayu was the guest of honour.

Wushu players from all the eight Northeastern states, including Sikkim are participating in the tournament organized by All Arunachal Pradesh Wushu Association and hosted by All Kimin Youth Welfare Association (AKYWA).

The inaugural function was attended by the Commandant 10th ITBPF, Kimin, EAC Kimin, CO Kimin, local Govt. officers, Panchayat members and local public.

Cleanliness drive at JNC

ITANAGAR, Aug 8: Staff of J. N. College, Pasighat conducted a cleanliness programme at Lower Campus of the college yesterday. Jungle clearance was carried out at football ground and roadsides. The potholes in the road were filled up with pebbles and soil from auditorium to J.N.College, Campus primary school.

The principal T. Talom led the social service and the day was organized by programme Officer, N.S.S unit of the College.

Nyari Welley Open Women’s Football Tourney begins today

ITANAGAR, Aug 8: Capital Complex Football Club will meet BNG Football Club in the opening match of the First Nyari Welley Open Women Football Tournament at Rajiv Gandhi Stadium, Naharlagun tomorrow.

A total of five teams, namely CG Football Club, CC Girls Football Club, Itanagar BN Girls Football Club, MD Football Club, Banderdewa and Capital Complex Football Club are taking part in the tournament, according to Arunachal Pradesh Football Association (APFA) release.

MLA Bamang Felix will attend the opening ceremony as chief guest at 3.30 pm while Papum Pare ZP chairperson Nabam Aka would be the guest of honour. The state team for the 7th Sub-Junior (U-16) Girls National Football Championship would be selected from the participating players on the basis of their performance, the release said.

The tournament which is being played in memory of Nyari Welley, the first woman legislator of the state, would be organized at state level from next near onwards, it added.

Jaypee accused of paying honorarium to GBs

PASIGHAT, Aug 8: Lower Siang Dam Project Affected Youth Association who are opposed to the Dam construction at Lower Siang has said that to lure the public of the area to accept the dam project and stop movement against lower Siang Dam, the Jaypee Company Limited are paying honorarium of Rs. Rs 3400 per month to Gaon Burahs and Panchayat leaders of the area.

Gaming Tournament in memory of Donli Riba

ITANAGAR, Aug 8: At a time when there is concern raised all around regarding the scarcity of avenues for youth to express and showcase their talents, a state level video game open tournament is being organized to commemorate the first anniversary of the passing away of Donli Riba, a gifted musician who also had a passion for gaming.

The tournament, called Donli Riba Gaming Quest 2010 will be played on the Playstation 2 platform and will feature two parallel challenges- Pro Evolution Soccer 10 and Tekken 5. With prize money of Rs. 12000 for the winner in each game and Rs. 9000 for each runner-up, there is a lot of excitement amongst video gamers, both old and young.

Though gaming has always been seen as a wasteful pursuit, the organizers have taken on the cause of the tournament to give young people a chance to show their skills in these two games, considered challenging by gamers. Through the tournament, there will be an effort to remove the negative image of gaming and gamers and legitimize it as a sport. The tournament will also feature performances by young musicians during the finals to be played in the evening of 13 August.

Donli Riba is the grandson of late Tomo Riba and passed away last year prematurely after a sudden illness. The tournament is a way to celebrate the spirit with which he fought his illness and to promote positive thinking and optimism in youth.

Take care of public property for coming generation

ITANAGAR, Aug 8: Recently I had gone to visit one government primary school situated nearby capital complex for some personal work. As I was going around, as usual it was the dilapidated condition of school that attracted my attention. With abysmal infrastructure, school almost looked like a cattle shed. If condition of government school within the peripheral of capital complex is so bad, then what must be the condition in the interior places? When I inquired with authorities about the pathetic condition of building they told me that school was renovated just one year ago. I was dumbstruck thinking how a building renovated just one year ago could look like it was built before India attained independence.

How on earth could someone dare to play with the lives of innocent poor children? These poor children also deserve to live respectable life and get education at par with private school going children. Most of the government schools are lifeline of the majority of poor Arunachalee, who pins hope on these schools, to educate their children. The people who were involved in renovation of said school building themselves must have sometime in their life studied in government schools. Many of the present day government officials and politicians, who frame various developmental policies, might have surely studied in government schools. At least remembering their past sad experience they should have honestly tried to build a good school structure for the children’s sake.

Main problem in Arunachal is that nobody cares for public property. Funds keep on flowing from centre to build new roads, hospitals, school buildings and other infrastructure projects. While on paper most of these projects are shown to have been executed properly but ground reality tells some other story. Where this money goes only god knows. Day by day state of affair of Arunachal is going from bad to worse. For now everything is being taken care by central government but for how long they will. Surely, in the coming years centre will advise us to generate own source of income and may reduce the grant. If that happens, schools and hospitals won’t be renovated? It’s high time government makes agencies involve in execution of infrastructure projects accountable if they do not perform the task up to a standard mark.

Everybody need to make a living out, but at least on infrastructure sectors, all agencies involve should honestly pursue their work. These projects are meant for many years and coming generation of this state will have to suffer if we do not build proper infrastructure projects. During that same visit, I asked one class V student girl, what she wants to become in future. Pat came the reply, “I want to become a police officer, so that I can wipe out criminals from our society.” She had a big dream in her eyes but I know after sometime, when reality bites, perhaps she may give up her dream. Meanwhile, I pray that she never wakes up from her dream and yes I wish she could dream for better Arunachal. Hope people who frame developmental policies are listening to her inner voice.

NABARD DGM visits Sangram

ITANAGAR, Aug 8: NABARD regional office, Itanagar Deputy General Manager AK Pasrija and Assistant General Manager visited Mangni Welfare Society; head Office Sangram to inspect the ongoing skill development programme.

Later, he also visited Pinku Pinnya SHG, Sangram and Dene Sangcha SHG at Leel.

The DGM appreciated the society and assured to intimate Bankers to sponsor those who started Handloom units in collaboration with the society in the district.

Meanwhile, the trainees appealed to the DGM to initiate steps for procurement of machineries, so that; they could start their activities after completion of training.

The team also visited Rural Development and Heritage Society, Sangram to inspect the ongoing skill development programme on August 3.

APLS sitting

ITANAGAR, Aug 08: The Arunachal Pradesh Literary Society (APLS) hosted its 15th literary sitting at the premises of J N State Museum here today. The usual literary sitting, held in every second Sunday of month, chaired by Dr Pekba Ringu saw a number of activities getting underway with an English poem titled ‘I have eyes but I am blind.’ The poem, composed by a girl of standard V- Kime Unu was recited by Kime Ampi, Archival Assistant, deptt of Research. Next came in Doge Ngomdir who recited his poem – Tuta Ghar. It was followed by a touchy short story of R N Koley, Assistant Director, Research who read out his composition, ‘Banya Tran’ depicting flash flood in Pasighat in early 2000.

The final turn was reserved for Dr Ringu, who read out a portion from his novelette called ‘Love Story 2003.’ Among others, the session witnessed the presence of Jamuna Bini, Asstt Prof (Hindi), RGU, Sonia Bam, ARO, Yupia and Dr S K Ghosh, Asstt Curator.

SIC seeks staff

ITANAGAR, Aug 8: State Information Commissioner (SIC) Toko Anil said that he has been facing great problem in discharging duty properly for want of support staff.

The SIC rued that despite repeated pleas to the authorities for providing him with necessary staff there has been no response from any quarter till date. He appealed to the State Chief Minister to look into the matter.

Rising fares

ITANAGAR: With increase in Petrol and Diesel prices, the private transporters have increased their fares in the state capital.

The public including government servants of the state capital are facing hardship due to increase in transportation fare.

It has been observed that some of the Tempo’s are charging Rs. 10 from Bank Tiniali to Ganga and Mithun gate to Bank Tiniali.

With such exorbitant fares, the concerned authority should provide daily JNNURM bus service from Chimpu to Mithun gate and vice-versa from 7am to 6 pm.

Meanwhile, Arunachal Tempo Welfare Association in a meeting held yesterday has decided to increase the charges of Tempo fare.

Now, the rate from Mithun gate to Ganga will be Rs. 10 and Ganga to Chimpu will be Rs. 15 respectively.

Debate Competition

ITANAGAR: The Mechanical Engineering Department of North Eastern Regional Institute of Science and Technology (NERIST) along with North Eastern Development Finance Corporation Ltd. (NEDFi) would organize a one day Debate Competition on ‘Development of Entrepreneurs in Arunachal Pradesh’ on August 9.

More than 37 students from various schools along with their teacher guides of Capital Region are expected to take part in the competition. The Competition is sponsored by NEDFi to commensurate their 16th In-Corporation Day.

Three cash prizes will be awarded to the winning participants like First prize Rs. 15000/-, Second prize Rs. 10000/- and Third prize Rs. 5000/- along with Memento and Certificate.

Don’t keep us dehydrated in the name of development

The bold initiative being taken by the five MLAs of East Kameng district for beautification of district headquarters Seppa is praiseworthy. No doubt developmental work is seriously needed in the Seppa town and on-going developments works are quit appreciable.

But the development agencies should keep in mind that peoples are not being deprived of basic needs such as water supply while carrying on such developmental works.

It has been observed that the personnel of UD Department and Gammon India being engaged in town beautification and construction of Seppa to Chayang Tajo road had totally damaged the whole water supply pipe lines of Seppa town, without any formal intimation to the public as well as P.H.E. department. The people are really ready to cooperate with but how can one think about a town where there is no water supply for more than four months due to the town beautification work. Town dwellers are now forced to walk more than two km a day just to fetch a bucket of water. Even in mid night the women have to come out in search of water for domestic purpose.

Surprisingly the district administration is still silent on restoration of damaged pipe lines and no visible initiatives are taken yet. When the leaders have shown their keen interest in developmental works then why the department concerned and the company workers are not taking care of public utility service while taking up development works ?

I, therefore, on behalf of Bazaar Welfare Committee Seppa sincerely request to the authorities to look into the matter immediately.

For the genuine tribal

Dear Editor,

With reference to the letters published in Readers Forum on 6th & 7th August regarding status of children of Non-APST father and APST Mother as demanded by Doimukh Student Union (DSU).

I do oppose this system and agree with the DSU, it is quite ironical to say that in our state most of the children inherit her mother’s surname though the father is non- APST.

Doimukh is just an example. This system is very popular and common in entire Arunachal Pradesh specially in Pasighat and Aalo. They get ST Certificate easily; they get seats reserved for tribal quota to study in various technical and non technical courses. After completion of degrees, they get jobs in our state. In every field like education, employment and business they are enjoying our facility depriving the genuine tribals.

It is not that we don’t know who they are but problem is that we never complain. We should complain and we should fight for our right.

This is not only problem of Doimukh or any other particular place but this a chronic problem of our entire state, students should fight against the system, so that our genuine bonafide people get the privileges and facility.

Capital needs lion share of fund, development agency

Dear Editor,

I went through statement of Itanagar MLA Techi Kaso over the depressing basic infrastructural scenario of the State's Capital due to non-allocation of fund for infrastructure development in the current financial year under the draft Annual Operation Plan 2010-11. I strongly condemn such step motherly attitude being adopted by the state government against the capital (Itanagar) constituency. It is the first time in history of Arunachal politics that the Government has sidelined the pre-requisite developmental activities of a constituency on the party line.

The capital doesn't belong to any individual or any party; it is an asset of our state and it is the "mini Arunachal" where people from different parts of our state reside. I also want to know why the people first government is indulged in discrimination on the ground of party when the matter is for public welfare.

As the objectives of every political party or any government is to serve the people and provide better governance, Congress Govt in state should come forward for the development of common masses. Such approach towards the constituencies of non-ruling party reflects that Congress Government in the state is incompetent of running the peoples Government and to address the need and aspiration of the masses.

Being the Centre of the state administration, Itanagar Constituency deserves lion share of funds for infrastructural development and emphasis must be given for the infrastructural development activities on important sectors like roads, health, education and other basic amenities of the state capital.

In comparison to the capitals of other states of the country, our state capital is lagging far behind in terms of basic infrastructure. The dilapidated road condition, improper drainage system, pathetic condition of Government buildings and poor water supply etc are the common features of our state capital.

Therefore, I, on behalf of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), Papum Pare District Unit call upon the State Planning Board and the Govt as a whole to reconsider the AOP with incorporation of additional schemes for the capital with due consultation with the concerned MLA. Further, we also agree with the proposal of Techi Kaso for creation of Capital Development agency with adequate fund provision and request the Govt to pay heed to the demand for creation of the proposed agency.

Give us a chance

Dear Editor,

Most of the Schools in our State especially in remote areas are running without sufficient number of Teachers. As a result, Students’ academic careers are badly being hampered. Therefore, we would like to request concerned authorities of the Education department to immediately appoint all the selected waiting list candidates to the post of J/T (S.St/Hindi) and A/T (A).

It may be mentioned here that most of the wait listed candidates are well trained and some are even qualified for Lectureships and every one of them had undergone rigorous written and viva-voce tests.

We do not understand that if the department could appoint large number of Teachers including undeserving candidates without following recruitment rules on officiating basis in the recent past and within short period of time, then why are the appointing authorities delaying in appointing eligible, qualified and deserving candidates?

We earnestly request the concerned authorities to look into the matter very seriously and appoint immediately to all the wait-listed candidates.

Cater to the need of the citizens

Dear Editor,

Time and again, the politics of our state has shown that the election is everything and nothing matters after the election. The winning parties celebrates the so called victory parties, the losing parties mourned their failure and go into hibernation till the next election. The common publics are suffering from various social deficiencies - viz. road, electricity, water, medical facility, teachers in schools & colleges, snail speed processing of files in offices, etc but no one cares.

This is a good time when the opposition parties should wake up, take up the issues and involve the public to get their support.

This message is in particular to Pasighat East Assembly Constituency where the Town is going to celebrate its centenary next year walking on broken roads, in darkness, injured by various illegal land occupiers, but with no doctors or nurses to attend even in emergency ward.

We are common people; we want proper service, regular power supply, clean drinking water supply even during rainy season, sufficient number of doctors and nurses in hospital, good road to walk on, planned township.

It is the duty of those in power to serve the public. If the MLA or Minister is not performing their duty, then it is the duty of the Opposition to take up the issue. We, the common public will certainly give our vote to the party who cares for us; if none cares us then a day might come when we will demand for negative voting.

When they misuse

Dear Editor,

This is pertaining to the news item "Do not misuse APST status" by DSU. It is a very serious matter of concern. Not only non-APST husbands of APST girls misuse the opportunity meant for APST citizens but they also have lands in the names of their wives and children with fake local title. When the brothers from same parent are fighting for the ancestral land then why the parents are gifting the land to their daughters married to Non APST. And with no doubt the Non APST husbands make most use of them. This is not only the matter there is lot more, which when I think make me remember what is happening to the Assamese people and the people of Tirap and Changlang district. Need to think over before it’s too late.
